Some weddings ask you to be everywhere at once. H & E’s did — two ceremonies, two wardrobes, two entirely different moods, all inside a single Accra day. The morning belonged to the traditional engagement: colour, family, drumming, the slow ceremony of two households becoming one. By evening the light had softened into the white wedding, quieter and more intimate. Our job was to move between those worlds without ever making the couple feel hurried.

Planning the day backwards

We started from the end. When a day carries two ceremonies, the biggest risk is not the photography — it is the timeline. So we worked backwards from the moment that mattered most to the couple: their first dance under warm light. Every earlier block was then given breathing room, with buffer time built in for the things that always run long — the receiving line, the family portraits, the drive between venues.

The best images of the day came in the ten unscheduled minutes we protected on purpose.

That deliberate slack is where the real photographs live. While the guests were being seated, we pulled the couple aside for exactly ten minutes — no posing, just a quiet walk and a few honest questions. Those frames, not the formal set-ups, became the ones they printed.

Two photographers, one story

With a two-crew setup, one of us stayed close to the couple while the other watched the room — the mother wiping a tear, the friends laughing at the back, the small gestures nobody stages. Covering a full traditional-and-white day well is less about equipment and more about anticipation: reading where the next moment will happen and being there a beat early.

An unposed moment between ceremonies — the kind of frame a rushed timeline never allows.

What we’d tell the next couple

If you are planning two ceremonies in one day, protect your light and protect your margins. Give the photographers a little room to breathe and they will give you images that feel like the day actually felt — not a checklist of poses, but a story with a beginning, a middle and a very happy end.
